AeroPress recipe and dial-in guide
Updated
A plastic syringe-style brewer: the coffee steeps, then you press it through a paper filter. Forgiving, fast, and easy to repeat.
A starting AeroPress recipe
This is where Cuplift starts a new AeroPress brewer before it knows anything about the coffee. Once you add a bean, the recipe adjusts for roast, process and altitude, then learns from what you taste.
| Coffee | Water | Ratio | Grind | Temp | Brew time |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 17g | 240ml | 1:14 | 600µm (Medium) | 90°C | 1:30 |
Grind is in microns because a click means something different on every grinder. 600µm is about 20 clicks on a Comandante C40. Filter: Paper (x2).
Steps
- Rinse filter
- Add 17g coffee at 600µm
- Bloom 50ml, strong swirl
- Pour remaining 240ml at 90°C at 0:30
- Gentle stir x8 at 0:50
- Start pressing at 1:30
- Finish by ~2:00
Dialling in a AeroPress
The AeroPress is an immersion brewer, which decides which changes are open to you.
- Grind leads, but steep time is almost as direct — and it has no side effects to untangle.
- Stirring speeds extraction and stirs up fines; agitate less if the cup turns muddy.
- Temperature and water minerals come after grind and time.
Whatever the problem, change one thing per brew. The dial-in guide covers the order to fix things in.
