Coffee brewer recipes and dial-in guides
Pick your brewer for a starting recipe and what to change when the cup isn't right yet.
Pour over
- V60Hario's cone dripper with one large hole and spiral ribs. It barely restricts flow, so grind and pour decide how fast it drains.
- ChemexAn hourglass carafe with thick bonded paper filters that drain slowly and strip out oils, for a very clean, tea-like cup.
- Orea V4
- Orea V3
- Kalita WaveA flat-bottomed dripper with three small holes and fluted filters. The flat bed extracts evenly and is forgiving of an uneven pour.
- OrigamiA ribbed ceramic dripper that takes either cone or wave filters, so it can brew like a V60 or like a Kalita.
- Hoop
- UFO V2
- UFO V3
- UFO Ceramic
Immersion
- AeroPressA plastic syringe-style brewer: the coffee steeps, then you press it through a paper filter. Forgiving, fast, and easy to repeat.
- AeroPress XLThe larger AeroPress, with room for roughly twice the water — same steep-and-press method, scaled up for two cups.
- Hario SwitchA V60 cone with a valve at the bottom: close it to steep, open it to drain. Immersion and pour over in one brewer.
- French PressCoarse coffee steeps in the full water charge, then a metal mesh plunger separates it. Heavy-bodied, with the oils left in.
